Managing Conflict at an Individual and Team Level
The first half of the session is devoted to exploring the nature of work based conflict between people. In this regard, the presenter explores the impact of unchecked interpersonal conflict in the workplace, the use of classical conflict resolution theory, having crucial or hard conversations, dealing with adversarial working styles and conflict in relation to change management.
The second half of the session is focused on team level conflict and on the importance of managing conflict to increase effectiveness at a team level. The presenter shares personal experiences from his consulting practice and also draws on some of the current thinking in overcoming conflict espoused by authors such as Patrick Lencioni, John Maxwell and Elaine Biech.
Presenter: Paul Muldoon, PGM Consulting & Training Services
Paul is a full time consultant and trainer with a specialty in organizational change in the not for profit sector. He operates PGM Consulting and Training Services Inc. from the Midland/Penetanguishene area of Ontario. Much of his practice takes place in rural communities in Northern Ontario, where he lived and worked for twelve years. Program areas are primarily developmental and children’s services. His work includes organizational redesign, strategic planning, coaching, program/operational reviews and various staff training workshops. Paul holds a Master’s Degree in Public Administration from Queen’s University and is in the eleventh year of his consulting practice. He has previously held positions as an Executive Director of a not for profit organization and as a field manager with the Ministry of Community and Social Services in Ontario.
